A Conversation with Austin Wintory

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with the one and only Austin Wintory (the BAFTA-winning composer behind video games such as Journey, Abzu, The Banner Saga 1-3, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, The Pathless, and many more) to discuss my experiences so far as a young composer. Also included in the conversation are composers Esin Aydingoz, Raheem Frederick, and Ariel Contreras-Esquivel, who provide valuable insight into the challenges composers face while in the early years of their careers.

Austin’s YouTube channel is an incredible resource for composers of all levels. His catalogue of videos, which include behind the scenes, video essays, podcasts, score videos and other videogame and film music-related content, provide a never-ending rabbit-hole of insight into the “hows” and “whys” of music-making. This is truly a treasure trove of information any composer should check out!
